CFE News is profiling catering’s cutest companions—the furry friends who bring joy to hospitality pros both on and off the clock. This week, Valentina Pulido, director of business development at Bill Hansen Catering in Miami, introduces us to Baku—the six-year-old golden retriever who’s equal parts motivator, muse and mood-booster.

How did Baku come into your life?
I’d always dreamed of having a golden retriever—a companion who would motivate me to be more active, get me outside for morning walks and help me slow down from my usual fast-paced work life. Baku has done all of that and more.
How did you come up with the name?
Baku was inspired by Bacchus, the Roman god of wine. I’ve always loved wine, and the name felt playful, a little indulgent and full of personality—just like him!

How does Baku make your life better?
Baku has completely changed my lifestyle. I’m more active, less stressed and much more balanced. He’s helped me trade happy hours for long walks and late nights for early mornings at the park. His calm energy reminds me to pause and enjoy the moment—something I often forget when I’m in work mode.

How does Baku make you laugh?
He knows exactly which coffee shops give out treats and leads me straight to them. And he’s obsessed with eggs—the only time he truly stares me down and drools is when I’m cooking them!
