The Floral Trends Forecast predicts which flowers and styles will blossom at next year’s events

Wondering which blooms your clients will be requesting for their events in the new year? The Flower Trends Forecast 2020, recently released by International Floral Distributors (IFD), gives a sense of how floral décor is expected to blossom next year.
“The Flower Trends Forecast is used by consumers, brides, event planners, florists, caterers, wholesalers, growers and all types of product suppliers,” says Jeff Lanman, executive director of IFD, a marketing company owned by 18 floral wholesale distributors. “The forecast provides insight into consumer shifts, and allows us to adjust our product offerings and services. Knowing current trends provides clients not only with our expertise, but with confidence in what we provide.”
According to the forecast, the top trending flowers for 2020 are:
Peonies
Garden roses
Ranunculus
Dahlias
Butterfly ranunculus
Spray roses
Chrysanthemum disbuds
Tender vines
Hydrangea
Tillandsia
In addition, the floral designers who researched and prepared the report—Helen Miller and Derek Woodruff—forecast four floral styles that are expected to flourish in the year ahead:
1. Black Tie + Barefoot
Predicted by the report to be the most prevalent floral style for weddings and events in 2020, this style features moody colored flowers and soft feminine textures, with a romantic feel and hints of a sophisticated Bohemian style. Garden flowers such as roses, hydrangea, lilac, lisianthus and tender vines are paired with a dried floral accent or two in loose natural stylings.
2. A New Leaf
This style combines plants with fresh and dried flowers. Roses, lisianthus, orchids, stock and hydrangeas are used in muted tones of butter yellow, coral, beige and cream. The designs include flowers mixed with interesting plant materials, as well as all-dried and all-foliage arrangements.
3. Posh + Polished
In this style, luxe textures such as velvet and matte metals are paired with rich, warm jewel tones. Alongside darker toned flowers are tone-on-tone combinations of beige and cream. The style includes a jewel-tone palette of velvety blooms, including roses, orchids, ranunculus and peonies, as well as gilded foliages of magnolia and Israeli ruscus that bring the metallics into the arrangements.
4. Vibrant Vibe
Bright colors paired with intention create a refined yet whimsical look in this style, which features accents of iridescence and bold prints. Flowers include gerbera daisies, sunflowers, orchids, protea and craspedia in their dominant color forms, grounded by the implantation of a darker ink gray.
